June 22, 2000 - San Jose, CA

Sunnyvale, Calif.-- Ion Implant Services (IISSM), the leading supplier of ion implantation services for the semiconductor industry, announces the appointment of Dr. Geoffery Ryding to its Board of Directors. Since the 1970s, Dr. Ryding has been a key member of many of the semiconductor industry's groundbreaking development programs in ion implant and is currently President of Orion Equipment Corporation, Inc, an ion implant technology development and manufacturing company.

Dr. Wesley Weisenberger, CEO of IISSM and Chairman of Orion Equipment Corporation, said “Geoff is an industry pioneer and a technology leader, having developed some of the industry’s most commercially successful products such as the Extrion and Nova implanters of the 1970s and 1980s, and he is now a key executive of Orion Equipment Corporation. We are delighted to have him advising Ion Implant Services as we embark on a new "insourcing" business model that takes our ion implant expertise into advanced technology fabs as owners of their implant equipment, process technology and fab operations. His unique combination of technology expertise and business acumen will greatly benefit IISSM during our next growth phase."

Dr. Ryding began his career with Extrion, Inc. in 1972 where he headed the R&D team that created Extrion ion implanters, of which over 2,500 were shipped. Extrion was later bought by Varian, Inc. In 1978, with Dr. Peter Rose, Ryding formed Nova Associates, where he again headed a team that created the Nova NV-10, which incorporated the revolutionary concept of a bi-directional scanning high current implant system, now the standard for today’s advanced high current ion implanters. Nova was later bought by Eaton Corporation, which has been a global market leader in ion implantation. Ryding then joined Ibis Technology Corp, where he became president and chief executive officer, overseeing Ibis' growth to a leadership position in oxygen ion implantation for Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) wafers. Since 1998, he has been President of Orion Equipment Corp, Inc. Orion develops advanced technology for ion implant systems and has a strategic relationship with Applied Materials, the world’s largest supplier of wafer fabrication equipmet.
